Chelsea leading the race for Kudus

Chelsea Football Club is reportedly leading the race to sign Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus from Ajax Amsterdam. The 21-year-old has been on the radar of several top European clubs after impressing in his debut season in the Eredivisie.

Kudus joined Ajax from Danish club Nordsjaelland in July 2020 and quickly established himself as a key player for the Amsterdam-based team. He scored four goals in 22 appearances in all competitions before a knee injury cut short his season in October.

Despite his injury setback, Kudus has continued to attract interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. However, it is now being reported that Chelsea is the front-runner to secure his services.

Chelsea has been active in the transfer market this summer, signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for a club-record fee of 115 million euros and bringing in Saul Niguez on loan from Atletico Madrid. The addition of Kudus would further strengthen their midfield, which already boasts the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovacic.

It is believed that Ajax would be willing to let Kudus go for a fee in the region of 25 million euros, which would represent a significant profit on the 9 million euros that they paid for him just over a year ago. However, negotiations between the two clubs could still be complicated, and there is no guarantee that a deal will be done.

If Chelsea is able to secure Kudus’s signature, it would be another statement of intent from the London club, who are looking to challenge for major honours both domestically and in Europe. As for Kudus, a move to Chelsea would represent a significant step up in his career and provide him with the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
