Shelby McDermott’s first birth experience was traumatic, leaving her terrified of having any more children. But fate had other plans for her, and in 2020, the mom-of-one discovered that she was pregnant with what many cheekily called a “Covid baby.”

Despite her nervousness and fears, Shelby’s second birth was a far cry from her first. As her due date approached, Shelby’s anxiety kicked into high gear.

However, she had no idea that she was already 5cm dilated with bulging waters when she went to her weekly check-up at 38+5 weeks.

With her mother by her side, Shelby headed straight to the hospital where she was greeted by a beautiful midwife and a loving atmosphere that felt like a party. Unlike her first labor, Shelby barely felt her contractions, and the labor progressed smoothly.

As the night wore on, the pain intensified, but Shelby’s partner and mother were there to support her every step of the way. After barely three pushes, Shelby gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Quinn at 8:00 pm. Overwhelmed with relief and joy, Shelby wept and repeatedly exclaimed, “She’s so beautiful. I’m so grateful that everything happened the way it did.”

For Shelby, the journey from trauma to triumph was a long and difficult one, but in the end, it led to a beautiful second birth that filled her heart with love and gratitude.
