The magical moment of holding your newborn in your arms is a memory that all mothers cherish. It’s a feeling that cannot be described in words and stays etched in your heart and mind forever. But do you remember the first time you saw your partner holding your baby? It’s a moment that’s just as precious and heartwarming. No matter how your baby came into this world, witnessing the person you love the most holding your child is a truly special experience.

Denver-based birth photographer, Monet Nicole Moutrie, has been capturing the beauty and intensity of childbirth for the last eight years. In her incredible series of photographs, she captures the raw emotions of joy, relief, love, and sheer exhaustion that women feel when they hold their newborn babies for the first time. Monet became a birth photographer after witnessing and photographing her older sister’s last birth. Her sister decided to give birth at home, and Monet was invited to watch the process from start to finish. She was mesmerized by what the female body was capable of and decided to capture the beauty of childbirth through her camera lens.

When asked about what she enjoys most about photographing childbirth, Monet explains that each birth is completely unique. Although births tend to follow a pattern, they always manage to surprise us. Monet‘s powerful photographs illustrate that every birth, whether vaginal or via C-section, produces an emotional and joyous result.

Monet’s work is truly incredible. The intense emotions she captures in these raw moments are amazingly powerful. Seeing a mother holding her brand new baby in her arms for the very first time after a marathon of childbirth – and the emotions that go with it – is a remarkable thing.

The relief, exhaustion, joy, and instant love that parents feel at our children’s birth is an absolute life highlight. And to have that moment captured and treasured for a lifetime is a wonderful gift.

As Laura Lyn Curtis said, “Don’t ever apologize for your behavior or choices during birth. When you own your experience and take pride in your journey, you help other women do the same thing. No matter how you did it, you just brought a human being into the world! The world should be kneeling at your feet.”
